As anyone who has ordered Warriors of Apoc will tell you, your comment is misguided.
I pre-ordered some boxes of Warriors in February for products that were to be released in March. Then we were told that AoW got flooded with orders and they posted an updated shipping schedule; my ship date was pushed into mid-April. Then there was a slowdown in production, so my order got bumped (again) to early June. Two weeks ago I sent AoW an email asking when my order would be shipped; they said it should ship during the following week. Still no word. A follow-up email went unanswered.
I initially said I'd support this project if I got my warriors before the funding campaign ended, because I really want to help AoW make great models, and get some myself. I've already revised that: if I just get confirmation that my order has shipped before the end of the funding campaign, I'll support the campaign.
Even if Felix manages to sculpt another 6 regiments (Warriors, Thunder Warriors, Iron Guard, Doomcrushers, Crossbowmen and Veterans) by January, there's not a lot of evidence that AoW will be able to produce enough product to ship it all by then.
Aside from the production issue, it has taken AoW more than 4 months to meet demand for the one regiment they announced in February. Since then they've released one new model (not even another regiment), despite claims of having more regiments in the works. That leaves 7 months for them to release another 6 regiments, not counting what's in the queue for Warriors of Apoc.
A new regiment every month is a daunting task, especially for a smaller operation like AoW. And if the demand for Dwarves is anywhere close to the demand for Warriors (I know lots of gamers who are waiting for AoW to have WoA available for immediate purchase), AoW is going to have a tough time keeping up with the increased production requirement.
Count me among those who find the January 2013 deadline a bit too ambitious.
Certainly, the wait for Warriors of Apoc has been long. I guess I'm lucky, because my order had shipped by the time listed on the shipping calculator. After talking with Johanna, I even got a tracking number (which eased a lot of concerns). But you slightly oversimplify the logistics and the assumption that future warcast releases would suffer from the same delays overlooks some things.
Your comment about 'one regiment in over 4 months' isn't the whole story. I agree with you that
in a sense it's one regiment. But there are four different products for sale. Even if the boxes use the same bodies, heads and command bits; and most boxes use the same arms. If it were *just* one regiment, an awful lot of sorting and organization would be cut out of the production process. It could have sped things up somewhat.
Then, there have been four new metal models released. Not one, as you claim. A champion(?) of war, a champion(?) of pestilence, a Marauder Champion, and a lovely new Dark Elf Sorceress.
Finally, the casting machinery has been purchased, set up, and the operating staff has been hired and trained. Those things don't need to happen twice. Unless Felix needs more gear to make the new regiments happen.
I agree with your point that the January 2013 release schedule is ambitious. But they'd happen, and I
don't think they'd be months late.
